About
I am an anthropologist and ethnographer, with a depth of experience in grounded research, analysis, writing, project management and teaching. I am interested in applying human-insights towards solving problems and producing creative outputs, and am fundamentally interested in how systems, both human and otherwise, interact in ways to form the world we live in. My expertise ranges from term ethnographic fieldwork in conflict-settings, managing research teams, coordination of NGO and INGO projects, investigative reporting on politically complex topics such as corruption and natural resource issues.
I have worked on and managed projects in volatile contexts and provided research analysis for large organisations. I am passionate about issues of governance, environmental challenges, markets, conflict and political economy. I have designed conflict mapping systems, worked on project monitoring for NGOs and ethnographically documented life in a conflict area in Southeastern Myanmar over several years of field research. I have also worked on a range of media projects; directing films and on long term media projects alongside text-based research outputs; coordinated translation for large research projects; managed large grants in both university and non-profit settings.
I am currently undertaking an PhD at the London School of Economics and Political Science, with my current research focusing on the politics of agrarian change, religion and militarism in Myanmar. I am Leverhulme Trust Scholar at the International Inequalities Institute at the LSE, and a Research Fellow at Chiang Mai University, where I continue to work on issues of ethnicity, conflict and religion in Myanmar.
I am also a sometime photographer and film-maker, and have conducted ethnographic work and photographic projects in countries including Nepal, Myanmar, Bolivia, South Africa, Canada and the UK.
